Kiera Knightley has explained in an interview with the Daily Mail the lack of lesbian sex scenes in her latest film, Colette.
Colette is based on the life of French novelist Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette, who had several notorious lesbian affairs while married to Henry Gauthier-Villars.
Knightley explained she sat down with the film’s director Wash Westmoreland and “didn’t want the lesbian sex scenes to be seen through the male gaze.”
“I always think what’s more important is what’s left to the imagination,” she added.
“That’s my personal preference; always. You can imagine a lot by being shown quite a little, you know.”
The film is set to be released in the UK January 11, 2019.
