Madonna Adds New Tour Dates in Celebration of LGBTQ+ Community

Madonna has added new dates to her U.S Celebration Tour, with one specifically in honor of commemorating the LGBTQ+ community, in a protest against the anti-LGBTQ+ legislations implemented in Tennessee. She took to social media to call attention to the inhuman treatment of the community, announcing her plans to “celebrate” her fans.

On Monday, the Like a Virgin singer released a post on Instagram revealing the addition of 8 more dates to her most recent tour – the Celebration Tour, which contains a selection of her greatest hits. Set to kick off in Vancouver on July 15, with regular dates across the globe ending in Phoenix, it was the addition of a date in Tennessee in December that inspired Madonna’s message of protest.

In the last few weeks, Tennessee has implemented the passage of two anti-LGBTQ+ laws. One directed at the transgender community, prohibiting gender-affirming care for trans minors, and another targeting drag artists by restricting public drag show performances.

Madonna, who has shown her allyship to the LGBTQ+ community for many decades, vocally rejected these legislative acts, taking to social media to announce her plans to campaign against the decisions. She described how her concert will act as a safe space for LGBTQ+ fans who are affected by the new laws, celebrating the “beauty” of the community.

“The oppression of the LGBTQ+ is not only unacceptable and inhumane; it’s creating an unsafe environment; making America a dangerous place for our most vulnerable citizens, especially trans women of color,” wrote the pop star. Also, these so-called laws to protect our children are unfounded and pathetic. Anyone with half a brain knows not to f*ck with a drag queen. Bob and I will see you from the stage in Nashville where we will celebrate the beauty that is the Queer community!

Many fans responded with pride and happiness towards Madonna’s allyship. RuPaul’s Drag Race star Michelle Visage commented “THAT’S OUR QUEEN!”, with other fans showing their gratitude too, “Thank you for continuing to fight against hate.”
