Malaysia Censors Queen Biopic

Malaysia has censored key scenes in the Freddie Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, reports Malay Mail.

The 133-minute film has had 24 minutes cut from its running time and been slapped with an R18+ rating (in much of the rest of the world the film only carries a PG rating).

Among the scenes cut include a scene in which the Queen band members are in drag in the music video for their 1984 hit “I Want To Break Free,”as well as a scene where Mercury tells Mary Austinabout his bisexuality.

The film has already received complaints from Western critics of “straight-washing” Mercury’s story, with star Rami Malek acknowledging this in recent interviews.

“I totally understand (accusations of straight-washing),”the actor said.

“I would’ve loved to have incorporated more (of Mercury’s bisexuality).”
