People Are Throwing Away Their Nivea Products After Company Says “We Don’t Do Gay”

People are uploading pictures of them throwing away Nivea products following a homophobic controversy with the skincare brand.

Ad agency FCB dropped Nivea after a representative from the brand turned down a proposed commercial featuring two gay men holding hands. The representative allegedly said, “we don’t do gay at Nivea.” They did not realise one of the people on the call at FCB was gay.

FCB then terminated their hundred-year relationship with the company, siting the comment and a number of other issues as reasons why.

Nivea released a statement saying,“We don’t comment on unsubstantiated speculations,” and that they are committed to diversity:

“We are an international company with more than 20,000 employees with very different genders, ethnicities, orientations, backgrounds and personalities worldwide. Through our products, we touch millions of consumers around the globe every day. We know and cherish that individuality and diversity in all regards brings inspiration and creativity to our society and to us as a company.”

The scandal has not gone away, with many Nivea users throwing out their products saying “Nivea doesn’t do gay, now we don’t do Nivea.”
