Republican Congressman Wants to Strip PBS of Funding for Airing ‘Arthur’ Gay Wedding Episode

Republican congressman Doug Lamborn wants PBS stripped of its funding for airing an episode of the children’s cartoon Arthur that featured a gay wedding.

In the episode, Arthur and his friends attend the same-sex wedding of their teacher Mr Ratburn. The episode first aired across the United States on May 13, but was met with controversy in several states. The Alabama Public Television station chose not to air the episode because they claimed it would be “a violation of trust” to the parents who depended on them to air family-friendly content.

“PBS writers deemed it appropriate to preach their liberal views on same-sex marriage to America’s young children,” Lamborn wrote in in a column for The Daily Signal.

“Taxpayers now know with complete certainty that the goal of the PBS cartoon is to impart social liberalism to children.

“Enough is enough. It is time to stop sending our hard-earned tax money to support programming that is objectionable to many Americans.

“That’s why I’m reintroducing a bill to cut off all federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which funds PBS.

“Public media programming is becoming more antagonistic toward conservative and religious viewpoints.

“Parents and churches should be the ones discussing marriage and family with their children—not PBS. To target children in this way is a complete affront to religious Americans.”
