Rupert Grint: We Must Support the Trans Community
Rupert Grint has explained his decision to speak out in support of trans people last year.
Following JK Rowling's controversial tweets and blog post about trans people, ‘Harry Potter’ star Rupert put out a statement saying he "firmly stands with the trans community."
Yesterday, in an essay for 'The Times', he elaborated on his position.
Grint touched the topic after discussing his baby daughter Wednesday and social media, as ‘Attitude’ reports.
“Dinner is now all about rusks and organic sachets,” he explained. “Then I do bath time. Wednesday is so excited, splashing about in the water. I did put a picture of her on Instagram but I’m not on it all the time.”
The 32-year-old continued: “Social media can start important conversations but if you put your opinions out there, you can get bombarded. I do think it’s still important to stand up for what you believe in, and for people and communities that need our support and love. That’s why I spoke out last year [in the wake of the JK Rowling transgender row, Grint said he firmly stood with the trans community].
“I wanted to get some kindness out there.”
