Serbian Police Intervenes To Protect Gay Pride Parade
Gay pride parades have been held in Serbia, specifically in Belgrade since 2001, and then they witnessed attacks by hooligans and ultranationalist groups.
Since 2014 the parades have occurred without major incidents. But this year, far-right supporters tried to prevent the gay paid parade.
Thankfully, the Serbian police clashed with the far-right supporters, some holding Orthodox Christian banners and others dressed as monks while they were singing religious songs, and the parade ended without any major incident.
This year, the parade was attended by the openly gay Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and her partner.
"Today we are sending a message of tolerance which has to be preserved in Serbia," Brnabic said. "I think we are heading in the right direction."
