‘Sex Education’ Actor on the Importance of Telling the Black, Gay Experience

Ncuti Gatwa, who stars in Netflix’s ‘Sex Education’ as Eric, an openly gay black teenager, has spoken out on the importance of sharing that experience, reports Papermag.

Sex Education follows a group of teenagers in a British village as they set up a sex clinic in their school to give their peers therapy sessions.

“It’s very important to see a black gay teen represented,” Gatwa said.

“I think there’s quite a narrow representation of gay people on TV and I think that we need to push that.

“And I think that we need to allow for a lot more stories to be told.

“The black gay experience isn’t one that is often told. And that community is struggling to find its feet because being a minority within a minority is an extremely difficult thing.”
