Spectators Asked To Remove Rainbow Flag In Israel Folau’s Debut At Catalans Dragons
Spectators of Israel Folau’s debut game with the Catalan Dragons were asked to remove the rainbow flags they unfurled as a “right to respond” to the homophobic player.
‘BBC’ reports that one of the two fans, Alison Grey, posted a photo of her holding the rainbow flag on Twitter and wrote: “Just been told I am not allowed this flag because the club does not allow it. How disgusting #loveislove #castleford #pride.”
Another supporter of Folau’s opposing team, ‘The Tigers’ was also asked to remove his pride flag. He wrote: “I was twice asked to remove it. Firstly as I was told it was against health and safety. Secondly because it is against club policy.”
Super League is currently investigating the case.
“Everybody should have the right to respectfully express their views. We are investigating,” said the league in a statement.
It added: “We will have more information by Monday.”
