Stonewall Top 100 Reveals UK’s Most LGBTQ+-Inclusive Employers
News
Law firm Clifford Chance tops this year’s list. Arup secures second place, followed by Victim Support, NHS Business Service Authority and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.
In fact, many of the companies in this year’s list, including the top two companies Clifford Chance and Arup, are myGwork’s valued clients. Other myGwork partners who have secured a place on the coveted list include HSBC, Unilever, Bank of America, Pearson, Santander UK, RPC LAW, WTW, Reckitt, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Colt Technology Services, Skyscanner, T. Rowe Price, Oliver Wyman, Whitbread, Dentsu, Aegis, Axa and Marsh McLennan.
Stonewall’s Top 100 Employers is the definitive list of workplaces who’ve dedicated themselves to supporting LGBTQ+ inclusion inside and outside the organisation itself. The list is compiled from the Workplace Equality Index, which companies submit entries to.
CLIFFORD CHANCE SCOOPS TOP POSITION
Clifford Chance has repeatedly reached the top 50 of the UK Workplace Equality Index since 2016. This year the international law firm rose to the top of the list thanks to building on its support for LGBTQ+ staff and championing LGBTQ+ equality across the UK. The firm has clear policies that ensure LGBTQ+ staff are protected and supported, as well as expansive healthcare benefits that include transition-related treatments and LGBTQ-inclusive mental health support.
Senior leaders at the firm are also highly engaged with this work, leading on local action plans, taking on personal inclusion-based objectives, and participating in the firm’s ‘reverse mentoring’ scheme to develop their knowledge with the support of more junior LGBTQ+ staff. The firm’s thriving LGBTQ+ employee network group, Arcus, provides confidential support and spaces for LGBTQ+ staff to build community. The network also runs a wide-ranging programme of events to engage staff across the firm with LGBTQ+ issues and advises the firm’s leadership on policies and practices that affect their members. Clifford Chance also champions LGBTQ+ equality beyond their four walls, lending extensive support and pro bono services to LGBTQ+ campaigns, community groups and charities.
ARUP SWOOPS STRAIGHT IN AT NUMBER TWO
Professional services firm Arup secured an impressive second place on the list, in its first year on the list after significantly developing its LGBTQ+ inclusion work.
The firm focused on sustainable development, understands that inclusion is important for its 6,000+ UK staff, and works hard to support them in meeting the needs of their clients, partners and communities they serve.
LGBTQ+ inclusion is embedded throughout the employee lifecycle, from attraction, recruitment and induction, through training and career development. Arup has a well-established allies programme, which encourages all staff to expand their learning and join a community of colleagues who actively promote inclusion across the organisation.
Arup’s active LGBTQ+ network group, Connect Out, provides support and advocacy for LGBTQ+ staff, with a particular focus on supporting their bi, pan, trans and non-binary members, as well as providing support for LGBTQ+ refugees, LGBTQ+ disabled people and the trans and non-binary community.
