Students Protest After Gay Teachers Resign From Catholic School

Students of the Kennedy Catholic High School filled the front steps of the school holding rainbow gay pride flags and “love is love” signs to protest the resignation of two gay teachers.

Although Paul Danforth and Michelle Beattie resigned of their own accord, students and parents said that the teachers had been bullied into resigning because of the fact that they were both gay. As ‘My Northwest’ reports, the Roman Catholic Church regards same-sex relationships as sinful.

“People who do nothing but love each other and do nothing wrong should not be fired or be punished or outcast from a religion that is supposed to stand for love and acceptance of everybody,” senior Audrey Bettis said.

In the protest, the crowd chanted sayings like, “Erase the hate,” “Re-hire, re-hire,” and, “We want change.” Student speakers called Danforth and Beattie “the best teachers in the world.”
