Supporting the LGBTQIA+ Community with a Unique Initiative

Here at GoCardless, we collectively started an incentive for our LGBTQIA+ employees and allies to create profiles and leave reviews within myGwork in order to help build our online presence on the platform. For every new profile/review, we leave a £5 donation for the charity of Pride Group’s choice.

After a recent survey, we have collectively chosen to donate these amounts to Galop. The reason our Pride Group chose Galop is that the cause resonated with a lot of our members and allies. Galop is a charity that works with LGBTQIA+ victims and survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence, hate crime, and other forms of abuse including honour-based abuse, forced marriage, and so-called “conversion” therapies - something a lot of us could benefit from. They do incredible work in helping our community through two national support helplines: one for people who are victims and survivors of abuse, and the other for people who have been victims of a hate crime. The idea is that Galop focuses on helping victims and survivors decide what is best for them, and then support them through their journey.

We pride ourselves on our values at GoCardless, and it’s important for us to donate to and help causes that care deeply about the well-being of marginalised communities, so Galop felt like a really good fit for us and we are really proud to be working with them.

It doesn’t just stop there, Galop also uses what they have learned through working with their clients to work on national and local level policy change. The focus is not only on the resolution of existing abuse cases but also on the prevention of future LQBTQIA+ abuse cases. Galop pushes for legislative change, improved statutory guidance for victims, and a better understanding of the needs of LGBT+ people around the country. We truly feel this is a cause worth celebrating!
