Teacher schools conservatives who are scared of kids’ questions about identity

Desmond Fambrini, a learning specialist from the Bay Area, U.S.A., has a viral TikTok video that’s racked up almost a million views. Fambrini identifies as nonbinary and bisexual, which makes him an expert when it comes to schooling conservatives.

“But what do we tell the children?!” about queer people is a common theme from conservatives and the religious right, who seem to imagine that kids are asking all sorts of graphic questions that only an adult would dream up.

Fambrini points out that the questions are primarily basic, and the answers are easy. He gives several examples and illustrates the ease of replying, as ‘LGBTQ Nation’ writes.

“Are you a boy or a girl?” is one question. “I was born a boy. Good question. Back to math though,” is Fambrini’s response.

“Are you married? Do you have a girlfriend?” is another. “That’s personal information. It doesn’t have to do with school,” is the answer.

“Why do you wear makeup?” is a third hypothetical question. “I like the way it makes me look, the same reason why other people wear it” is his reply.

“All jokes aside, the conversations that you’re so worried about are very, very easy, and very, very fast,” Fambrini says at the end of the video.

“And here’s the kicker, kids don’t actually care about sexuality. They’re not actually going to ask, and if they do, pretty simple to tell them that they’ve overstepped and that’s a personal matter that doesn’t have to do with school.

“The indoctrination you’re afraid of isn’t real.”

In a follow-up video, Fambrini tackled the question, “Mommy, is that a boy or a girl?” The answer to that question, too, is easy – and he explains why.
