Team LGBTQ+ finishes 11th in traditional Paris Paralympics medal count

LGBTQ+ athletes achieved their highest-ever collective medal count at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris.

Team LGBTQ+ secured a total of 28 medals at the Paralympics. During the Tokyo Paralympics three years prior, the openly LGBTQ+ athletes earned 25 medals overall.

According to ‘Out Sports’, team LGBTQ+ ranked 17th in terms of total medal count, tying with Colombia and Turkey. However, when using the traditional method for Olympic and Paralympic medal standings—which prioritises gold medals (12), followed by silver and bronze—the team ranked 11th, surpassing countries like Germany and Canada.

American para swimmer Christie Raleigh Crossley led the openly LGBTQ+ athletes by winning four medals—two golds and two silvers—at these Paris Paralympics.
