As renowned an event in the queer community as Eurovision nowadays, the Met Gala provides an annual opportunity for celebrities from all career paths to show off their sense of style. Social media is a tough crowd, critiquing every inch of every outfit with zero remorse – so many attendees bring their absolute best efforts to the show. Though it’s particularly difficult to narrow down this year, we’ve put together the top ten most camp looks from the biggest night in fashion.

Lil Nas X
This extroverted pop star gets everyone talking wherever he goes – and this event is no exception. Lil Nas X arrived at the Met Gala almost completely naked, maintaining his modesty with a small pair of underwear, body paint and jewels alone. Carrying the certainty and poise required to pull off such a look, Lil Nas X was painted head-to-toe in a metallic silver gleam, with only his eyes and hair remaining untouched. Many are describing it as by far the best suit of the night, and we’re inclined to agree.
Michaela Coel
This stunning, floor-length, bedazzled (and we mean bedazzled) dress fit actress and screenwriter Michaela Coel impeccably. The outfit is reported to be made of 130,000 crystals and 26,000 mixed stones, taking around half a year to create. Combined with Coel’s innate confidence as she strolled down the carpet, this isn’t a look we will be forgetting anytime soon.
Doja Cat
Arriving at her first ever Met Gala, Doja Cat had big shoes to fill following her previous extravagant fashion statements at the Paris Fashion Week. Whatever anyone was expecting of her debut appearance, it wasn’t this. Putting the cat in Doja Cat, she wore incredible facial prosthetics designed to make her look like her feline namesake. She also wore a long, soft gown with a cat-ear headpiece to complete the outfit. We’re particularly fond of her statement as to what inspired her to put together this look - “meow".
Conan Gray
Aside from the occasional exception, the men who attend the Met Gala are often renowned for not being particularly adventurous with their choice of outfit. With many simply turning up in a plain tuxedo, or blazer and smart trousers, it’s usually left to the women to impress. However, as demonstrated by the likes of Lil Nas X, more impressive efforts are being made this year by the male attendees, and that includes singer Conan Gray. With a bedazzled, floor length jacket, adorned with sequined sleeves, pearls and a matching hand-fan, Gray attracted positive attention from all angles at the event.
Yung Miami
Caresha Brownlee, better known as rising star Yung Miami, arrived at the Met Gala in a fabulous blend of pearls and tulle. With a soft, lip-shaped collar-piece protruding around her, the rapper wowed photographers and fans alike. Celebrating the event, Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, Yung Miami attended the event with Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs and took the time to address the rumors surrounding their relationship.
Janelle Monae
Doing the queer community proud was singer and actor Janelle Monae, who arrived in a transformational cone-shaped piece. The initial outfit, a black and white suit piece in a triangular shape, was soon stripped away to reveal a transparent under layer, featuring pearls and very large platform boots. Outgoing as ever, Janelle Monae performed for the cameras with shocked expressions, adding an element of fun to their piece.
Harvey Guillén
American actor Harvey Guillén also rejected the ‘boring men’ trope at the Met Gala. Wearing a bold pastel pink suit with an immense floral appendage and billowing cape, he exuded sheer confidence upon arriving at the event. Also incorporating pearls, a recurring nod to Lagerfeld from many attendees, his outfit gained incredible praise from those watching via social media, with many Met Gala fans urging male celebrities to take after Guillén’s influence.
Erykah Badu
American singer-songwriter, record producer and actress Erykah Badu displayed her eccentric style by turning up in an all-white ensemble, most notable for the very lengthy white wig that covered almost her entire face. Social media went crazy for the bizarre look, jokingly comparing her to Sia and the Yeti from Monsters Inc. Combined with an eclectic mix of jewelry and nail decorations, Badu’s contribution is perhaps the strangest of the night – which is not a bad title to hold at the Met Gala!
Jordan Roth
Theater producer Jordan Roth was expected to bring camp eccentricity to the event, and he did not disappoint. Practically dressed as a hand-fan himself, Roth’s outfit is so extravagant that it could have easily been included in the Met Gala’s previous event focusing entirely on camp fashion. Dressed in black from head-to-toe, including alluring black lace gloves, the startlingly red lipstick stands out ferociously.
Rihanna
Turning up fashionably late, the Umbrella singer had fans of the event waiting with bated breath for her arrival. With previous Met Gala looks often being the talk of the night, especially the iconic omelette dress of 2015, Rihanna never disappoints. This year, her outfit was as fresh as a bouquet – quite literally. Positioned so she is blossoming between a large bunch of dove-white flowers, the singer songwriter later removed the floral attachment to reveal her growing baby bump, standing proudly alongside partner A$AP Rocky.
