Texas Lesbian couple refused prom tickets
A Lesbian couple in Texas have been told by their school they can’t attend prom together.
Merary Melchor, a senior at John Tyler High School, says she applied twice for tickets to take her girlfriend of more than two years, Sydney Aparicio. Both times school officials denied her tickets.
“[I asked administrators,] ’Are you discriminating against them?'” Aparicio’s mother, Jessica said. “And they said, ’No, absolutely not, she can go.’ They said they didn’t want any gang fights. [And] I said: ’Gang fights?! They’re gay! If that’s the case, you’re discriminating.'”
Aparicio also said she put all the money she had into buying a buying a prom dress, “It’s highly upsetting me.”
School officials said in a statement that the couple had missed a deadline that would have allowed Sydney to attend.
