“‘Free’ walking tours: To get you started in exploring the city of Vienna, I would recommend a ‘free’ walking tour. For just one to two hours in the morning or afternoon, this tour of the city will show you what’s on offer. With a plethora of insider tips and historical information, it can help you to jumpstart your travels. It is free as advertised; however, it is expected to leave a tip at the end of your tour (around 10€). Search google or Facebook for local ‘free’ walking tours!


Schӧnbrunn Palace: Located on the outskirts of the city, Schӧnbrunn Palace is one of the main tourist attractions of Vienna. It was home to the Habsburg family and the birthplace of many Austrian emperors.Take a tour through the palace, admiring the rooms and lavish furnishings and have a peek into how the royals of Austria lived in the past.


Schӧnbrunn Palace Gardens: The Schӧnbrunn Palace Gardens are so stunning that they deserve a day trip in their own right!


Museums Quartier: Home to a multitude of museums such as the Kunsthalle Wien and the Architecture Center Vienna, the Museums Quartier is also a great place to hang out. The galleries are surrounded by a multitude of cafes and restaurants, and if you like street art, why not take part in a street art tour?


Albertina Museum: This museum at the heart of the city is any art lover's dream. Home to works of Claude Monet, Cezanne and Lebasque, there is much to be discovered!


Hofburg Palace: Hofburg Palace is yet another building which showcases the power and influence of the Habsburg dynasty. Today the palace serves as the official residence and offices of the President of Austria. Here you can take a tour through the imperial apartments and even visit the museums located within the complex.


Wiener Staatsoper: Located centrally in the Innere Stadt, stands one of the finest opera houses in the world. Cheap seats sell out fast, but you can bag yourself a standing ticket for under 10 euros. Guided tours are also available throughout the day which give a great overview of the history and architecture of the building.


Burggarten: The Palmenhaus near the Hofburg Palace hosts a wonderful place to stop off for lunch and some drinks. A relaxing area surrounded by trees and plants from around the world, it is a fantastic photo spot to satisfy all of your Instagram worthy needs. Don’t forget to pop into theSchmetterlingshaus, where you can walk amongst some of the most beautiful and varied species of butterflies.


Café Central: If you are in Vienna you cannot miss out on Sachertorte, and what better place to try some than at one of the city’s most esteemed cafes! Opened in 1876, this Kaffeehaus, with its splendid interior and mouth-watering patisserie selection, has been known to have hosted the likes of Freud, Trotsky, and novelist Stefan Zweig.


Belvedere Museums: Once the summer residence for Austrian princes during the 17th Century, the belvedere museums contain a grand collection of artworks, including one of the largest collections by the artist Gustav Klimt.”
