Thousands March For LGBT+ Rights In Paris: “Our Pride Is Political”
More than 2,000 people marched Paris in a politically-engaged Gay Pride, a week after the official Pride Parade was cancelled due to the coronavirus restrictions.
Following a banner writing: “Our Pride Is Political”, thousands walked down the streets of Paris, holding rainbow flags, having coloured their hair and dressed up in drag. Banners were up with different messages, some calling for a “Radical Pride” while others denouncing transphobia.
According to ‘France24’, Emma Vallee-Guillard stated that Saturday’s rally was a response to a call made by several LGBT+ groups who stated it was important to mark the event. “Pride, in the beginning, was a riot,” she said.
“The danger of rolling back our fundamental rights is very present and the epidemic has revealed multiple factors of exclusion, discrimination and violence,” Giovanna Rincon, director of the association Acceptess-T, which defends transgender people, said.
The official Gay Pride march was due on June 27 but was cancelled because of coronavirus restrictions. It is due to take place on November 7.
