Tinder Introduces New Warning Feature For LGBT+ Users Travelling in Unfriendly Countries

Popular dating app Tinder has introduced a new feature that will warn LGBT+ users when they are in countries that are unfriendly to queer people.

If you are LGBT+ your profile will no longer automatically appear if you travel to a country where homosexuality is either illegal or taboo. Instead a message will appear on your screen giving you the option to hide your profile.

“Based on your geographical location, it appears you’re in a place where the LGBTQ community may be penalized,”the warning reads.

“We want you to have fun, but your safety is our #1 priority. Please proceed with caution and take extra care when making new matches and meeting with people you do not know.”

“It’s no secret that we believe everyone has the right to live how they want to live and love who they want to love,”Tinder said in a statement released on their blog.

“And while there are still efforts to protect our freedoms from LGBTQ discrimination here in US, it’s important to remember that there are still nearly 70 countries around the world that have laws effectively criminalizing LGBTQ status.”
