Travers Smith Partner Daniel Gerring makes OUTstanding's list of Top 100 LGBT Executives 2018, presented by the FT

Travers Smith Partner and Head of Pensions Daniel Gerring has been ranked at number 15 in the 2018 OUTstanding LGBT+ Role Models list, in the LGBT+ Executives category, which was revealed in the Financial Times today. Daniel is one of only three private practice lawyers in the Top 20 this year.

The prestigious list profiles 100 high performing LGBT+ individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to promoting LGBT+ inclusion in the workplace and society. Listed individuals were nominated by peers and colleagues and selected by a judging panel who scored the nominees’ achievements in promoting LGBT+ inclusion, the seniority and influence of their roles, as well as their business achievements.

Daniel is Travers Smith’s senior champion for LGBT+ equality and a strong advocate for diversity & inclusion more broadly. Daniel chairs Travers Smith's LGBT+ Group and also sits on the firm's Diversity and Inclusion Board. In these roles, he has contributed to making Travers Smith's policies, practices and benefits significantly more LGBT+ inclusive, most recently launching a series of initiatives aimed at supporting trans* and non-binary colleagues, and championing intersectional work between the firm's different network groups.

Daniel is also a trustee director of a number of charities, including Just Like Us, an LGBT+ charity for young people. Daniel has continued to work closely with Just Like Us on its innovative mentoring programme aimed at enabling students to enter the workplace as future LGBT+ leaders, confident in their identity and openly LGBT+. Daniel is a founding member of the Law Society's LGBT+ Committee, which delivers nationwide initiatives supporting LGBT+ solicitors. Throughout the year he has appeared as a regular speaker and panellist on the topic of LGBT+ inclusion both in the UK and internationally. Additionally, in his role as a board member, Daniel has continued to support Refugees At Home – a charity which has provided over 100,000 nights of free accommodation to refugees and asylum-seekers since its launch in late 2015. Daniel became a trustee of City YMCA in 2018 and works closely with the charity to support vulnerable young homeless people.

As Head of Pensions at Travers Smith, Daniel leads one of the largest teams of pension fund lawyers in the country - advising on funds with in excess of £100 billion of assets, providing pensions to hundreds of thousands of people. Under his leadership, the Pensions team has recently won the inaugural Diversity and Inclusion Excellence Award at the UK Pensions Awards 2018. The award is a clear demonstration of how diversity and inclusion is integral to the team in serving its clients, and of its work in promote diversity in the legal and business community.

Daniel Gerring said: "It is a privilege to again be included in the OUTstanding Leading LGBT+ Executives List, presented by the FT. The collective achievements of the impressive LGBT+ leaders demonstrates how far we have progressed in promoting LGBT+ inclusion in the business environment and beyond. I am very pleased to be able to play my part and am committed to continuing to take a leadership role in helping to drive positive change at organisational and individual levels."

Travers Smith's Senior Partner Chris Hale added: "Many congratulations to Daniel on this important accolade, which is richly deserved. He has been a leading and impressively effective advocate for LGBT+ inclusion, both within Travers Smith and beyond, and has contributed immensely to the firm's inclusive culture."
