U.S.A.: Biden campaign targeting LGBTQ+ voters in new ‘Out for Biden-Harris’ initiative

April 12, 2024

The reelection campaign for President Joe Biden in the U.S.A. initiated a new movement on Tuesday aimed at engaging the LGBTQ+ community in the political process.

According to ‘CBS Austin’, Vice President Kamala Harris shared a message in a video for the campaign, invoking the words of LGBTQ+ rights advocate Harvey Milk, emphasising that “rights are won only by those who make their voices heard.” The video also featured a statement from President Biden, declaring “LGBT rights are human rights.”

Dubbed ‘Out for Biden-Harris,’ the campaign intends to highlight the Biden administration’s accomplishments for LGBTQ+ North Americans, as reported by Advocate. The strategy focuses on engaging the LGBTQ+ community, which is described as a significant and influential group.

“LGBTQ+ voters have proved to be a formidable force,” campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez stated to the publication. “They played a key role in our 2020 victory, and they are crucial for success in the upcoming election this November. This is the motivation behind launching Out for Biden-Harris, aiming to leverage the LGBTQ+ community’s capacity for organization to ensure the reelection of President Biden and Vice President Harris.”

The campaign is reaching out for support from influential figures within the LGBTQ+ community, including drag queens, political representatives, and “LGBTQ+ faith leaders,” according to the report. Among those reported to contribute to the campaign are actor Wilson Cruz and openly gay Democratic Representative Robert Garcia from California.

Rodriguez mentioned to the publication that a major focus for the LGBT community should be to oppose the efforts of former President Donald Trump.

“LGBTQ+ Americans couldn’t have more at stake this election: Donald Trump and his extremist allies are running to gut LGBTQ+ rights and erase history as their top priorities,” Rodriguez reportedly said. “LGBTQ+ Americans deserve leaders who will fight for every American’s freedom and dignity. That’s what President Biden and Vice President Harris have done throughout their time in office, and what they will do if reelected, including pressing Congress to pass the Equality Act.”
