London – Pearly Kings and Queens Harvest Festival
What is it? Rooted in 125 years of tradition, this annual event features traditional English entertainment including maypole dancing, Morris dancers and a marching band. A parade makes its way around the City of London to St Maryle-Bow Church for a 3pm service.
Price? Free, but harvest festival offerings are welcome – and donated to the Whitechapel Mission.
New York – Brooklyn Book Festival
What is it? A celebration of all things literature, bringing together writers from around the world. This year’s festival showcases authors like Joyce Carol Oates, Alexander Chee, Rumaan Alam, Jennifer Egan, Tayari Jones and others.
