Why I Celebrate IDAHOBIT

Given that the first IDAHOBIT was marked back in 2004, it saddens me to reflect on how much there still is to do. Instances of discrimination and violence continue to be prevalent across the globe, from Poland to Iran. I do feel however, that even in the midst of the heartbreak and ongoing challenges, IDAHOBIT provides us with hope, an opportunity to increase awareness of the homophobia, biphobia and transphobia that exists. This year’s theme - “Together: Resisting, Supporting, Healing!” has never been more important – we seem to have reignited the Stonewall spirit, continuing to make progress, being there for one another by standing together as a community and being LOUD. IDAHOBIT is a day where we can unite with our allies and be visible champions of inclusion and difference.
