Will & Grace creator donates gay Marlon Bundo book to every grammar school in Indiana

Will & Grace creator, Max Mutchnik, has bought a copy of John Oliver’s Marlon Bundo book for every grammar school in Indiana.

Earlier this month, Vice President Mike Pence revealed a children’s picture book that he and his family would publish. The book centres around the Vice President’s rabbit, Marlon Bundo, and was conceived as an educational tool to teach children about the inner workings of the White House. Talk show host John Oliver has lampooned the concept and made his own picture book about Marlon Bundo, only his version features a gay love story.

Oliver’s version follows Marlon Bundo as he falls in love with another boy rabbit. Together they have to fight an evil stink bug who refuses to let them get married. The book was conceived as an actual children’s book with LGBT-inclusive themes, not just an adult parody of Pence’s. All proceeds from the book go to the Trevor Project and AIDS United. An audiobook has been released as well, narrated by Jim Parsons, RuPaul, and John Lithgow.

“Mike Pence has had an enormous platform in Indiana, and as it relates to gay people, he’s used it to spread a message of intolerance,” Max Mutchnik wrote on social media. “By donating these books, I hope to counter those efforts and provide positive role models and a story of inclusion for children in Pence’s home state.

“If this book can help one boy or girl in Indiana love and accept who they are, I know both Marlon Bundos would be proud—even though one of them is on the down-low.”
