WorldPride: Celebrating Australia's LGBTQ+ Inclusion Progress Over the Past Decade

Laurie Ferland-Caouette, Sales Team Lead from Reckitt, shares how her company Reckitt is celebrating WorldPride in Australia.

1. How will you or your organisation be celebrating WorldPride this year?

As a company, we are excited to celebrate WorldPride and Sydney Mardi Gras this year, especially since Durex is an official sponsor for the first time ever. We are thrilled to see our brand engage with the LGBTQ+ community and involve Reckitt employees to participate and volunteer in this impactful event. We are looking forward to seeing this multi-year partnership evolve in our market. Additionally, we gather as a company for a Mardi Gras celebration, which is the most exciting event of the year for us. We are proud to support the LGBTQ+ community and celebrate diversity and inclusion during Mardi Gras and every day of the year.

2. In your opinion, just how far has LGBTQ+ inclusion in the workplace in your country come over the last decade?

Australia has made significant progress in LGBTQ+ inclusion in the past decade. This includes legalizing same-sex marriage in 2017 and implementing anti-discrimination laws in all states and territories. Additionally, there have been improvements in gender recognition and LGBTQ+-friendly healthcare services. Despite these advancements, discrimination and inequality still exist, and ongoing efforts are necessary to promote greater inclusion and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community.

3. What more can workplaces be doing to be more inclusive in your country so that the LGBTQ+ community can be open and be able to work with pride?

To create an inclusive workplace for the LGBTQ+ community in Australia, we must have strong anti-discrimination policies in place, provide mandatory diversity and inclusion training, and promote the use of inclusive language and communication. Employee resource groups, human resources and leadership must hold hands on their commitment to a more inclusive workplace, monitor progress and make changes as needed. We are proud of the support Reckitt has shown to its employees since the inception of our LGBTQ+ ERG two years ago, we continue to make strides towards a more inclusive and diverse workplace.
