Diversity & Inclusion

At the FT, we aim for employees across all regions to have a voice so that diverse perspectives are heard and valued. We believe that a supportive workplace is one where employees feel they can be themselves at work and have the flexibility they need to meet their personal needs. We'll continue to remove barriers for all, and in particular barriers facing employees from underrepresented groups.

We have invested in a dedicated Diversity and Inclusion team, whose job it is to develop best practice, schemes and programmes to advance our offering and promote the FT’s culture as an open and inclusive workplace. We do this in many ways including: career development, flexible working, returning parents programmes, work experience schemes, fair recruitment practices, employee lead networks, volunteering, accessibility schemes and partnerships with organisations that support diversity in our industry.

LGBTQ+ Employee Network Group

Proud FT launched in 2017 and has become an established, global network for FT staff with a presence in London, New York and Manila. They aim to cultivate an environment that makes our LGBTQ colleagues feel empowered and free to be themselves at work. Proud FT hosts over 20 events a year, including films screening, book club events, socials and panel discussions. They continue to drive change within the organisation by working with HR to develop staff policies, marching in Pride in London each year, raising money for various charities and donating advertising space to particular organisations that champion the LGBTQ+ community. Proud FT hosted the company’s first Trans Inclusion workshop with Gendered Intelligence. They were also ranked in the Top 10 employee groups in the UK in the 2022 British LGBT Awards, as well as being nominated for outstanding LGBTQ+ network of the year at the 2023 British Diversity Awards.
