Internship Electrical Safety (80-100%)

We use the benefits of electrical energy every day; electrical systems and devices are omnipresent. To minimize electrical hazards, there are numerous technical regulations and safety devices. These include residual current devices (RCDs), for example. They switch off a circuit within milliseconds and can therefore save lives if a fault or damage occurs and the current does not flow in the intended way. ABB has been developing and producing residual current devices at its Schaffhausen site for many decades. Demonstration cases exist to demonstrate the function and also the possible consequences if such devices are not used. They can be used, for example, to make currents perceptible through one's own skin and to ignite wood using electricity. We are looking for a student to revise the concept and design of these RCD demonstration cases for a six month internship.

Your responsibilities

  • Inventory of the existing demo cases
  • Determination of necessary changes respecting updated device designs and standards
  • Determining whether and how an additional device category can be included in the demonstration setup
  • Creation of a concept for the new structure of the demo case, taking existing components into account
  • If necessary, design / manufacture / procurement of new components
  • Documentation

Your background

  • Current Bachelor or Master studies in electrical engineering or in a related field of study
  • Advanced knowledge of German and English
  • Ability to work independently and responsibly
  • Curiosity and initiative
