Lil Nas X Makes History Again As First Openly Gay Man To Be Nominated At Country Music Awards
The American rapper has made history again!
Lil Nas X is the first openly gay man to receive a nomination in the Country Music Awards. Specifically, he has been nominated for Musical Event of the Year for his country hip-hop track Old Town Road (Remix) with Billy Ray Cyrus.
This track has recently become the longest-running number single of all time on the Billboard 100, making Lil Was X the “first artist to come out as gay while having a number one song”.
After coming out, in an interview with the BBC he said: “It’s something I was considering never doing, ever, taking to the grave. But I don’t wanna live my entire life – especially how I got to where I’m at, not doing what I wanna do.”
Earlier this week, Lil Was X won the Song of the Year Award in the VMA’s, making him the first LGBT+ artist to do so.
