New Year's Resolutions: Garrett Dibon-Smith Reveals His List For 2023
Resources
Garrett Dibon-Smith, Global Training and Development Manager and LGBTQI+ Lead from Novartis, reveals his new year's resolutions for 2023.
9%. Statistically, that is the number of
people who will successfully keep their new year’s resolutions. Crazy, right?
However, I am an achiever, it’s one of my top 5 themes in Gallup Strengths
Finder, and that, coupled with being slightly competitive, that little number serves
as my motivator. Naturally, to set myself up for success, I started with a
little research and headed over to Google (the source of truth?!) where I found
the science (or rather one of many sciences) around building habits. This
science was based on BJ Fogg’s, Tiny Habits which shows that the best way to be
successful when trying to build a new habit is by starting tiny. And I am doing
just that, in 2023 I’m keeping it simple but impactful.
It also so happens that this year I’m turning a big four zero, and my new year’s resolutions are going to be All. About. Me. That means being happy, healthy, both mentally and physically, and successful, so here are my new year’s resolutions.
I’m saying no to the drama, queens! This year I want to surround myself with people who make me a better person. I want to be around people who make me laugh, and who are there for me when I need to be picked up (or just talk). I also want to be a better friend back.
Forty and fabulous. I want to continue the
momentum I started in 2022, so I can have a healthy body and mind. That means
daily movement, being resilient or understanding those things that I can and
cannot control, acknowledging them and then taking positive steps towards change.
Marc Anthony said, "If you love what
you do, you will never work a day in your life.” So for my final resolution, I
want to focus more on my purpose to help make the world a better by being a
better advocate, and taking purposeful actions; starting with speaking up when
things are not right.
So, I’ll come back to you in February with an update on how I’m going, but I sure hope that I’m in the 9% and not the 91%. Happy New Year myGwork! May 2023 be a happy, healthy and successful year for all of you too, and remember, start tiny.
