Engineering Manager (d/f/m)

The newly founded eBay Classifieds Motors Vertical (MoVe) team operates worldwide from our offices in Amsterdam and Berlin. As part of the product development team in either Berlin Friedrichshain or Dreilinden near Potsdam (your choice!), you will have the opportunity to work on ground breaking technology and have an impact across all our markets by providing innovative capabilities for all of our apps and sites.

Join our team of technical managers and lead one of the five engineering teams responsible for developing and improving the consumer proposition as part of the Consumer Unit.

Your team's mission is to help the undecided and inexperienced car buyer to find a model that meets their outstanding needs, and support them with information on key topics during the car buying process as well as to ensure that consumers that are looking for a car on Google find our information and relevant listings easily.

Your responsibilities:

  • Leadership - Encourage and motivate the team. Set the direction by aligning team goals to the company vision and strategy. Build a healthy environment of trust and a strong sense of ownership and accountability.

  • People Management - Develop talent by ongoing coaching, mentoring and results-oriented. Make sure your team has the right skill sets to accomplish its goals. Give candid feedback frequently. Assess and manage performance of team members.

  • Technical Ownership - Have a high-level sense of your team's software architecture. Lead technical discovery of future work and guide technical decision making. Monitor technical health metrics and ensure the right balance between Delivery & Technical Excellence.

  • Project Management - Break down complex topics into smaller, manageable tasks in collaboration with Product and UX. Manage internal and external stakeholders, communicate relevant information in a timely fashion. Coordinate work with team-external dependencies. Identify, manage and communicate risks.

  • Team Performance - Deliver on commitments. Ensure alignment of the team's objectives with the higher level organizational goals. Measure performance indicators and continuously improve the efficiency of your team.

Your profile:

  • Experience leading engineering teams

  • Software development experience on Senior level in backend or web

  • Passion for agile software development, product discovery and continuous delivery

  • High aspiration for quality balanced with a good sense of pragmatism

  • Advanced understanding of design, implementation and operation of distributed services and APIs

  • Ability to thoroughly evaluate, employ and teach new technologies and concepts

  • Effective oral and written English communication skills

People are the heart of the eBay Classifieds Motors Vertical (MoVe) and their health and well-being are our first priority.

We continue to monitor local government guidance and partner closely with medical advisors to determine the safest and best next steps for everyone. As a result, most teams are working remotely, with a few teams able to collaborate in person with enhanced safety procedures.
