About the team and the role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tech Lead, Responsible AI to join our team. In this role, you will lead research and development of our AI products and services, ensuring they align with the company's values and ethical standards. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and processes to deliver high-quality AI products to our customers.

What you will accomplish:

  • Lead end-to-end research to understand how AI systems can be designed with ethics, safety, equity, and inclusion as first-class concerns

  • Collaborate hand-in-hand with applied researchers and engineering teams on multiple AI projects

  • Formulate problems, capture data, generate hypotheses, contribute to model and algorithm development, conduct studies and experiments, synthesize results, and shape prototype applications to deliver high-impact business applications

  • Participate in top-tier academic conferences to broaden the impact of your contributions, in human-centered technology, computational social science, STS, and Machine Learning / AI, as well as specialized conferences on responsible AI

  • Act as a subject matter expert and inspiring leader in responsible AI, internally for the company and at industry conferences, and contribute to publications and thought leadership content

What you will bring:

(Preferred Qualifications)

  • PhD in Computer Science, Informatics, Systems and Technology Studies or related fields

  • Research publications in prominent venues such as conference or journals, especially in the area of responsible AI such as ACM FAccT; AAAI AI, AIES, NeurIPS, ICML, or similar

  • Comfort with rapid prototyping and disciplined software development processes

(Minimum Requirements)

  • Strong expertise in socio-technical AI, equity and fairness, ethics, transparency, interpretability, safety in the context of AI/ML

  • Deep understanding of responsible AI topics such as evaluation techniques for machine learning models; statistical approaches to evaluation and their relationship to legal, philosophical and socio-technical concerns

  • Experience with ML development pipelines and tooling.

  • Practical research experience and/or software engineering in collaborative project settings

  • Masters' degree or PhD with relevant work experience in Computer Science and/or Human-Computer Interaction, Socio-technical Systems, Statistics, or Engineering

  • Proficient understanding of fundamental AI and ML evaluation techniques

  • Practical research and/or data science experience with real world data

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment in California, Washington, or New York is expected in the range below.

$149,200 - $234,850

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
