Associate Director Operational Excellence Program Management, Pharmaceutical Development & Manufacturing

Specific Responsibilities for the Position:

We are searching for an innovative Operational Excellence professional to develop and lead the Operational Excellence program within Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing (PDM). The Associate Director for PDM’s Operational Excellence Program will collaborate closely with the project management department and cross-functional teams to ensure clarity of strategy, lead change, and facilitate communication across all parties.

Essential Functions

The position will consist of the following main duties:

  • Champions and enhances the practices for Operational Excellence, including the use of continuous improvement and Lean methodologies to drive efficiency, alignment, and effective processes
  • Establishes the process for OPEX project selection and prioritization
  • Hands on support to the OPEX project teams on defining their objectives and driving the execution and results forward. Provides guidance on use of CI and Lean methodologies.
  • Actively monitors the OPEX portfolio to ensure progress on project/program strategy and communicates status effectively to senior management
  • Creates a mechanism to collect and track the benefits/savings associated with operational improvement initiatives to illustrate the sustained benefit of the improvements
  • Runs the internal governance process and structure which includes cross functional committees to ensure visibility, effective communication, and good decision-making principles
  • Participates in the review of the project review materials and other strategy documents to ensure messaging is clear and concisely communicated
  • Leads the OPEX training program to educate, coach, and mentor staff to deliver measurable improvements in process capability and business processes
  • Establishes a team to support the PDM Operational Excellence Program

Knowledge, Experience & Skills

  • 10+ years project management experience and a BA or BS or; 8+ years of relevant experience and a MS or MBA. Relevant experience consists of a cross functional role within the biotech/pharmaceutical industry with understanding of the drug development process
  • 5+ years of experience in an Operational Excellence or Business Excellence role
  • Six Sigma certified Black Belt or equivalent
  • Strong facilitator of workshops and process improvement initiatives using continuous improvement methodologies
  • Ability to interact with multiple layers of the organization with success in influencing at all levels
  • Ability to develop and mentor team members and drive accountability
  • Experience in developing organizational metrics and visual management systems for key performance indicators
  • Highly skilled in visualization tools, SharePoint, Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, Project)
