Job Description

We have the following exciting opportunity in our Foster City, CA location:

Director – Direct-to-Patient (DTP), US Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Marketing

This role is a foundational role and the beginning of a core build out of the US IBD marketing team for the launch of Filgotinib in Ulcerative Colitis (UC).  As one of the first members of the US commercial team, this individual will assume a key leadership role responsible for a multitude of DTP related activities in preparing the US commercial organization and the external marketplace for this important launch into a novel therapeutic area for Gilead.  The individual who assumes this role will be ultimately responsible for hiring and leading the IBD DTP team to support the ongoing launch activities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing the patient strategy and tactical plan for filgotinib in UC
  • Managing all aspects and channels that support DTP promotion for filgotinib in UC
  • Effectively translating scientific, clinical and market research into actionable commercial activities
  • Coordinating the development of integrated unbranded and branded DTP campaigns and tactics that support overall brand strategy
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key IBD patient advocacy groups
  • Development of processes for accurate measurement and evaluation of appropriate  DTP activities
  • Partnering with internal stakeholders to develop the strategy and execution plan for filgotinib patient support services/programs
  • Participating in the BPOA planning process and development of annual DTP tactical plan and budget
  • Effectively managing multiple agency partners to produce deliverables within timelines and allocated budget.
  • Gaining approval for marketing materials through internal review process to ensure marketing activities are in compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Developing, coaching, managing performance of direct reports (when built out)
  • Leading or serving as a key commercial member on cross-functional initiatives, often with high visibility within the organization such as market expansion planning.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Marketing Experience, Biotech/Pharma – 8-10+ years
  • Robust patient/consumer marketing experience
  • Leadership/team management experience preferred
  • Must possess excellent strategic thinking skills with ability to formulate, develop and execute strategy.
  • Ability to translate market research findings into actionable insights and tactical plans.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with the ability to effectively tailor  communication to a variety of groups and audiences
  • Experience in working with and leading cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated excellence in project management and proven track record of managing complex and/or multiple projects/priorities
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills with ability to lead, interact with, focus, resolve conflict and drive consensus among individuals from a variety of cultures, and disciplines.
  • Ability to effectively lead agencies and other external partners in aligning and developing tactical plans and promotional materials that are aligned with brand strategy
  • Firm command of financial management with an understanding of revenue forecasting and expense budget planning and tracking
  • Ensures that all marketing activities are in compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.
