Reporting to the SVP Medical Affairs, this individual will provide strong business leadership in developing Patient Centered Outcomes in order to help assesses and align the benefits of preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic, palliative, or health delivery system interventions to inform decision making, highlighting comparisons and outcomes that matter to patients, payers and. policy makers

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensures that the patient is the absolute center of everything we do in Medical Affairs.
  • Developing long term strategy and implementation in our therapeutic areas and products on a global, encompassing Patient Centered Outcomes across Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR), Managed care and Government Accounts (MCGA), Medical Education, Strategic Planning (MESP) and Medical Affairs Operations (MAO) functions.  A recognized leader, expert and spokes-person internally as well as externally.
  • Leads and collaborates with the HEOR teams to design and develop analytic models, cost-effectiveness models to evaluate budget impact; disease treatment models, and other tools critical for advancing sales opportunities. 
  • Drives towards holistic patient outcomes strategy – including clinically determined patient goals and collaborative patient centered goals including increased motivation with therapeutic process, improved meta cognitive strategy etc. Collaborates to establish a center of excellence at Gilead for HEOR, Patient Reported Outcomes (PROs) and Real World Evidence (RWE).
  • Performs at times in previously uncharted territory within established guidelines or procedures. At times, exceedingly complex governmental rules and regulations must be followed. For problems surrounded by complex rules and regulations, must be able to direct compliance knowledgeably and expeditiously.
  • Provides leadership in a cross-functional global team environment. Interacts externally and internally to support global business strategy. Interacts successfully with
    senior management and act as the HEOR champion and spokesperson internally as well as externally to HCPs, payers and policy makers globally.
  • Develops creative and effective solutions to inter- and intra-project priority conflicts, resource constraints and other problems which may impact project or group goals and deliverables across multiple programs.
  • Partners & influence stakeholders including: Policy makers, payers, physicians, patients. Internal stakeholders: Medical Affairs therapeutic teams, Clinical Research, Commercial, Discovery and Legal Teams
  • Collaborates and Leads the Managed Care and Government Accounts (MCGA) team to ensure alignment with the scientific and value story from the HEOR team as well as each therapeutic team.
  • Collaborates and Leads the Medical Education and Strategic Planning team.
  • Collaborates and Leads the Medical Affairs Operations team

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • Doctoral Degree: Economics, Public Health, Psychology or any other related field with 10-15 years of relevant experience, preferred.
  • MD or PharmD, preferably with a Masters or Doctorate in Economics, Public Health, Psychology or any other related field with at least 15 years of relevant experience.
  • 10-15 years of post-marketing experience in the pharmaceutical industry is desired. CRO, academic or other health-related consulting company experience with expert knowledge in a relevant therapeutic specialty will be considered.
  • Skilled in statistical and analytical methodologies and modeling, scientific data interpretation and presentation.
  • Ability to travel 15-20%.
  • Must have excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Strong ability to collaborate across multiple internal and external partners.
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail, clarity, accuracy and conciseness.
  • Uncompromising ethical standard and conduct.
  • Experience in leading complex products and/or clinical development in support of pipeline development and on-market product support. Must be self-motivated and have a strong desire to see projects achieve commercial success.
  • Extensive knowledge of the global regulatory, HTA and PR&A landscape, as well as understanding of other development-related functions as they relate to all phases of drug development.
  • Able to motivate and foster team & cross functional collaboration.
