Senior Scientist - Functional Genomics

A new and exciting opportunity is available for highly motivated and dynamic scientist to fill a position in Genomics group within the Functional Genomics department. The successful candidate will be part of functional genomics team exploring and applying advanced omics and genetics technologies for target discovery, disease model validation and biomarker discovery. We are looking for a scientist with broad experience in applied genomic technologies, including molecular characterization of single genes/proteins and next generation sequencing. Successful applicants will participate in the development and expansion of genomic capabilities such as spatial transcriptomics, single cell genomics, chromatin architecture and gene editing.

Your primary focus will be in the laboratory, with a deep desire to be involved in driving drug discovery projects. You will be expected to perform laboratory experiments, data analysis, record keeping and reporting of results to agreed timelines, and give presentations at both internal and external meetings.

You will demonstrate the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and will display excellent interpersonal and communication skills, interacting with scientists and external collaborators at all levels. For this position, you will be expected to maintain knowledge of current scientific literature relevant to the role. A proactive attitude, excellent organisational skills and good record keeping are essential.

Why You?Basic qualifications:
• MSc or equivalent experience in genomics, molecular and cellular biology or a related discipline
• Broad experience and in-depth knowledge in advanced molecular biology techniques, molecular characterization at genomic, RNA, and protein levels (genomic PCR, RT-PCR, Western) and hands-on experience in next generation sequencing
• Demonstrated experience utilizing genomics to investigate the regulation of gene expression
• Proven experience using Illumina sequencing platform in a variety of sequencing applications and data analysis (e.g. RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, DNA methylation, DNA-seq/human exomes)
• Experience in using software applications in genomic analysis and data interpretation
• Demonstrated ability to design experiments, solve problems independently, troubleshoot protocols and implement omics studies
• Sound knowledge of genetics
• Strong organisational and communication skills; demonstrated ability to liaise with scientists and external collaborators at all levels
• Strong publication record, ability to generate scientific reports and present data to senior stakeholders

Preferred qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience in novel genomics methods development and data analysis.
• Demonstrated ability to manage NGS data.
• Knowledge and practical experience in cell biology and assay development, e.g. high content imaging, flow cytometry.
• Knowledge and practical experience with multiplex IHC/Immunofluorescence/in-situ hybridization/ICC and experience working with both frozen and formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissues.
• Knowledge of one or more programming languages (e.g. Perl, Python, R) and competent working in a Linux/Unix environment would be an advantage.
• A track record of working in a specific disease biology field would be an advantage.
