Literacy & Math Tutor Intern - KY

PURPOSE

The Kentucky Equity Based Tutoring Program will assist school-aged children in grades 1-8 with improving their reading and math skills through systematic in-person tutoring sessions conducted at Woodford County School System, located in Versailles, KY.

QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred undergraduate Education majors who are Pre-Service students with:

  • Excellent reading and math skills and willingness to share your love of learning
  • Excellent people skills, enthusiasm for helping children, respectful attitude
  • Ability to work separately with child within a larger context of child/tutor groups
  • Creative and enthusiastic when covering lesson plans and reading selected books
  • Attention to detail regarding paperwork

JOB DUTIES

  • Tutor assists children, in first through eighth grade in the development of
  • Reading and Math skills and enjoyment.

  • Tutor engages in academic activities with selected students either one-on-one or with
  • small groups.

  • Tutor will collaborate with the teacher and staff members to assess the student’s needs and how best to address them. Many of the children who tutor works with are performing below their expected academic grade level.
  • Communicate effectively with Pearson supervisor, school administrators, teacher and staff
  • Tutor must commit to work at least from May28-July 19, 2022. With one week off during July 1-7. Consistent, ongoing support is necessary for the children and teachers with whom the tutor works. The tutor is expected to honor the term of his/her commitment and must give two weeks written notification to both Pearson terminating employment.
  • Tutor is required to complete the following:
  • a) An initial program orientation, arranged by Pearson

    b) A general training, arranged by the school district

    c) One in-service training per month arranged by the school district

    d) One reflection session per week, arranged by Pearson

    e) An evaluation of program arranged by Pearson

  • Tutor must provide his/her own transportation.
  • Unexcused and excessive absences or unsatisfactory performances will be grounds for
  • dismissal.

  • Fill out FWS paperwork (time-sheets and evaluations) accurately and on time
  • HOURS AND WAGES

  • Tutor must commit to work a minimum of 7 hours per day for 7 weeks
  • Tutor may not work more than 35 hours per week.
  • Tutor must follow the work schedule of 7:30 – 2:30 each day.
  • Tutor will use a percentage of time preparing tutoring materials and performing required assignments.
  • Tutoring wages are $20.00 per hour; plus, milage.
