Job Details

The Perf Tools & Scalability team is looking for a technical manager to join us as we continue with our mission of enhancing and supporting vital performance tools, investigating and root-causing critical performance issues impacting our customers and systems, and evangelizing our team’s offerings and solutions to other teams in the Dev Org. You will manage a team focused on delivering improvements to our internal tool interfaces with emphasis on usability, the way we execute within AWS, and increasing the overall consumability and actionability of our teams output. You will work closely with, and help influence, other Performance engineers, teams, and management to define, develop, and deliver these improvements. You will leverage your organization, influence, and communication skills to build recommendations to improve our Product and Processes and align other people and teams with these goals. While innovating for usability improvements, the team must also ensure the smooth operation of existing systems, balancing resources dynamically between these two priorities.

  • Collaborating with members of your team and others, bringing together the best ideas and pushing back on the others. 

  • Influence key outcomes around product performance, strategy, and practices

  • Play a pivotal role in improving our engineering standards and best practices.

  • Provide guidance and support across multiple teams of highly skilled engineers.

  • Contribute and work towards reshaping our performance ecosystem tools, interfaces, and systems into a highly reliable and available service offering.

  • Advocate on behalf of internal users and solve for their usability concerns in our tooling.

  • Investigate and research infrastructure tooling issues, resolving the issue and making recommendations for future solutions.

  • Design and expand on our teams' ability to provide scaled performance testing solutions to all of Tableau.

  • Providing technical guidance and contributing to the vision and architecture of Performance and Scalability at Tableau.

Who you are…

  • A Leader: You have software development Lead or management experience, and you have a track record of delivering quality software solutions. You are experienced with Agile development methods, modern DevOps practices and practices of operational excellence for supporting live services.

  • Organized: You can balance across priorities, making sure the team is focused on solving the right problems at the right time. 

  • A Coach: Ability as a coach and mentor providing strategic guidance to the team and partnership across the organization.

  • Excellent Communicator. You know what to say and, more importantly, how to say it. You distill complex technical information down to the key elements and communicate both design ideas and technical details effectively.

  • Educated: Hold at least a bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
