Assistant Product Designer-Hardlines

Job Summary:

The Assistant Product Designer supports teams in the development of specific projects and able to manage a small single category when needed. You will assist teams to ensure the highest quality, consumer-focused, trend-right lines across all channels of distribution (licensing, flex business models, vertical and wholesale) that build brand equity and meet financial targets.

You will report to the Director-Product Design.


  • Develop product mock-ups, compile line sheets for line reviews, layout creative presentations, and retail pitch decks
  • Work with design manager to design and approve products
  • Coordinate product submissions for creative reviews and approvals with design team
  • Manage product and market samples
  • Implement product and licensed packaging approvals through online systems and collaborative approval meetings, ensuring standards in character execution, in-depth storytelling, color, material, form and function while maximizing profitability, and onboard new partners
  • Design, sketch, prototype (including managing art-to-product, 3D modeling, sample creation, fit sessions, and electronic breadboards, where applicable), provide trend-right consumer centric lines that feature market-leading innovation and great price/value for each tier of the value pyramid
  • Monitor competitors, product development and market dynamics
  • Research initial seasonal trends by category
  • Manage multiple design projects within deadline

Basic Qualifications:

  • 1+ year's entry level related experience
  • Knowledge in hardlines/softlines categories (e.g. raw materials, plastic, textiles, print, pattern, graphic composition, manufacturing)
  • Effectively transfer information and present between teams and partners
  • Advanced product design skills (e.g. 3D product design, technical design, sketching, creative application and manipulation of art, final mechanical art, fabric and trim identification)
  • Advanced software skills (e.g. MS Office, Photoshop, Illustrator)

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field (e.g. industrial design, toy design, fashion design)
