Senior DevOps/Infrastructure Engineering- Insurance Consulting and Technology

Summary of Role
We are looking for a Senior DevOps/infrastructure Engineer to join our growing engineering organisation (headquartered in Reigate, currently 175 heads globally) developing a wide range of market-leading InsurTech solutions. You will join us at an exciting time as we evolve our portfolio from desktop/on-premise towards cloud/SaaS. 
As a DevOps Engineer, you will work with a peer to jointly take ownership for a wide range of infrastructure and tooling aspects supporting the engineering teams developing our successful Insurance Pricing software suite (5 scrum teams currently, expected to grow significantly during 2019). You will work closely with the development teams to ensure they can rely on state-of-the-art, highly performant, Microsoft-centric development environments, build systems, and test automation infrastructure. This is a critical and varied role, using a wide range of technologies, combining strategic work with short-term tactical fixes and improvements.

The Role
  • Define and implement best practices for Application Lifecycle Management,
  • Work with relevant stakeholders to create and manage your own backlog of infrastructure items, consisting of a mix of high-priority tasks and long-term strategic improvement plans,
  • Work with Lead Software Engineers to maintain and improve the existing continuous integration pipeline, optimising and upgrading build systems on an ongoing basis,
  • Extend and monitor the various CI/build/QA/project dashboards to ensure they remain "EURoegreen"EUR , 
  • Debug tooling and infrastructure issues or performance bottlenecks as required, and dispatching product-related issues to the teams,
  • Participate in product design meetings to ensure the infrastructure required to support new product requirements is identified upfront and put in place in a timely manner, 
  • Work with the QA Leads to ensure on-premise and Azure-based test environments are continuously optimized to execute a high volume of test cases in a fast and cost-efficient way,
  • Design, implement and document test environments and frameworks, assist in the design and implementation of automated tests,
  • Take ownership for signing, obfuscation, security testing and packaging tools and systems, and for the application of such systems to the actual products developed by the teams, 
  • Act as the bridge between the development team and the Engineering Services and Corporate IT teams with regards to the management of the overall infrastructure estate supporting the development teams (>100 servers), decommission unused or obsolete servers and set up new servers as required, ensuring servers are switched off when not in use to optimize costs,
  • Keep an inventory of the various tools supporting the development environment and continuously modernise/upgrade them, provide guidance and instructions to the development team as required
  • Participate in scrum meetings as relevant (e.g. sprint demos and retrospectives),
  • Liaise with other teams and infrastructure engineers to share ALM technologies and best practices.
The Requirements 
  • Extensive experience administering CI systems, creating build configurations and pipelines (VSTS/Azure DevOps, TeamCity, NuGet, MSBuild)
  • Experience administering version control systems such as VSTS / Git and SVN
  • Familiarity with Microsoft .NET development environment, Visual Studio
  • Strong background in Windows operating systems (7/8/10, Windows Server)
  • Strong scripting skills (PowerShell), software development skills using C# .NET
  • Self-reliance, attention to detail, commitment to high-quality, ability to learn quickly and to innovate
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including providing simple solutions to complex situations
  • Strong team player with the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively
Other highly desirable, but not essential skills are:
  • Experience of cloud technologies (primarily Azure but also AWS), and of migrating on-premise infrastructure to the cloud
  • Knowledge of Linux operating systems e.g. RHEL/OpenShift
  • Understanding of network topologies and common network protocols and services
  • Database skills e.g. SQL Server administrationKnowledge of security best practices and tools
  • Experience of Windows & Linux containers and orchestration platforms (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • MS Test or other unit testing frameworks, mocking framework, GUI test frameworks such as Ranorex
  • Experience designing, developing and executing unit, integration, system and performance tests
  • Experience of working in an Agile/Scrum environment
