    Purdue University Global
I am a Professor of English and Rhetoric at Purdue University Global. I have taught English, literature, and technical writing for the past 35 or so years, including a short stint in Japan. I am also the Faculty Advisor for the PG Pride Alliance Student Affinity Group. I recently completed my doctorate, writing a dissertation on first-year writing programs and LGBTQIA2S+ student belonging and identity development. I also am currently the lead scientist on a longitudinal study of faculty attitudes toward teaching LGBTQIA2S+ students, so we better understand our students' needs and promote equity in the classroom. I am also the co-editor of two books coming out this year at McFarland Publishing on popular culture and gender/queer identity representation.

A varied career, my background sits firmly in counter terrorism, human rights and humanitarian responses, the focus of my PhD. I have worked across defence platforms globally as well as advising on large-scale events such as the Olympics. My interest in international relations has focused on the role of women in certain organisations and the barriers and pathways women undertake in them, delving specifically into the unseen realities. As an educator, law and politics played heavy in the balance of affairs. Outside of teaching, I undertook elected roles within student unions, supporting welfare roles, women's officer, diversity and neurodiversity pathways. As a keen sportswomen, I have played in the UK and US at premiership levels which opened my eyes to disparity and insufficient equity across elite platforms and is now a key driver in some of the lectures I deliver to grass roots communities.
