Be Your Authentic Self in Whatever Shape or Form That Means to You

Mark CiccarelliArea Coordinator at lululemon, Northeast U.S & Canada East, shares with us his point of view of the LGBTQ+ History Month.

Over the course of several decades, RuPaul has had an unprecedented impact on the LGBTQ+ community and is unquestionably responsible for bringing drag queens into the temper of times - the forefront of popular culture. RuPaul has set the stage for Drag to be all about illusion, breaking gender stereotypes, and encouraging the fluidity of human identity. The success that RuPaul has made for himself has equally been prolonged with Drag Queens that have shared their talent on the infamous RuPaul’s Drag Race television series – cascading awareness through other global franchises over the last several years. While sharing his energy through televisions across the globe, he has sincerely brought awareness and has been a key activist to causes like HIV/AIDS, Queer policy for the basic human right of every individual, and more.

By embracing his true self and encouraging millions to do the same, RuPaul has become an inspiring pop culture symbol. He has supported LGBTQ+ rights and has fought for equality throughout his career, all while showing the world never to take themselves too seriously. RuPaul is most famous for creating catchy sayings like “if you can’t love yourself, how in the h*ll are you going to love somebody else?”. Although comedic in nature, he has reminded us that we, as humans, need to show love and compassion to one another – laugh, cry, shake it off, death-drop and make each other LAUGH.

If there is one thing RuPaul has taught the LGBTQ+ community, it is to be your authentic self in whatever shape or form that means to YOU.
