Boxer Nicola Adams Clarifies She’s A Lesbian, Not Bisexual

Nicola Adams has clarified she is a lesbian, not bisexual. The boxer will make history on the upcoming series of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ when she takes the stage with a woman, becoming the show’s first same-sex couple partnership.

Nicola shared a video to TikTok, Instagram and Twitter, which was soundtracked by the Kill Whitey track Gay, to clarify her sexuality to her fans.

As the lyrics went “Yeah”, the athlete pointed to captions reading “Are [you] into women" and “Are you a lesbian”, before lip syncing along to the chorus: “B**** I’m so gay, I can’t even think straight.” Nicola added a rainbow flag to the video, and captioned it: “I’m a lesbian.”

She added on Twitter: “I’m lesbian not bi, just saying.” Nicola previously shared that she came out as bisexual at the age of 15, stating: “It was quite a scary thought for me at the time. I knew one other person in my school who was the same and we talked. We hadn’t come out… You never know how the family is going to react, so I was nervous.  ‘Mum was in the kitchen washing up and I was like, ‘I’ve got something to tell you.’ I was so nervous, I was really sweating, and she says, ‘What’s wrong?’ And I was just like, ‘I’m bisexual.’ And she was like, ‘OK, put the kettle on’.”

In a different statement, she said: “No one’s ever really cared about me being bisexual and I only came out because I had always been out, it’s just the general public didn’t know. I’m quite fearless. I’m like, ‘Let’s just go out there and do this and see what happens’.”

According to ‘Metro’, when Nicola won her gold medal for women’s boxing at the 2012 Olympics, she became the first openly LGBT+ person to do so.
