Company Catfishing – Data compiled by Greenhouse Software reveals worrying statistics

Company Catfishing – Data compiled by Greenhouse Software reveals worrying statistics

Almost half of the 1,500 US-based respondents to Greenhouse’s recent survey have rejected positions after feeling catfished during the hiring process.

What is Company catfishing? This is when there’s a misalignment between the brand that the company portrays and the reality of the company culture.

Prospective employees are seeing beyond the Glassdoor reviews, the About Us section of an employer’s website and the glossy company videos and making their own minds up about what is and isn’t authentic, from what they’re experiencing during the hiring process.

One in three of those surveyed have experienced discriminatory questions during an invterview, such as questions about marital status, race, age, gender, religion etc.

As well as understandably expecting to not have to answer such questions, candidates are looking to see a company’s commitment to DE&I based on the diversity of their interview panel. With candidates judging company’s through every interaction in the hiring process, its more important than ever for those companies to ensure fair, inclusive and consistent hiring practices that authentically reflect the values and culture of the company.
