Fostering An Inclusive Culture
Business
Here’s the view of Magda Cheang, Senior
Sales Recruiter at Zoom Video Communications on her experience working at the
company.
When I joined Zoom, it was on April Fools’ Day,
2020, at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, and I felt truly blessed to be
joining such a company!
I was referred into the company by someone
in my network, who is also part of the LGBT+ community, being a gay man in his
mid-40s. Having spent many years working in a variety of tech companies, where
the average age is skewed towards early 30s, I already found this to be a good
sign.
I was very excited to be helping a
hyper-growth company build out it’s Sales team across various markets. As Zoom
was very busy responding to the demand of its product, I had to jump in and
talk to people in France, UK, and even Japan as we had no talent acquisition
team in APAC yet. I was happy to jump in and even though I was ‘remote’ I could
feel how mission-driven Zoom is as an organization.
It’s been a bit more than a year, 1 year
and 3 months to be precise and I definitely feel part of the ‘Zoomie’ family,
and it’s definitely been a fast-paced ride! Even before our official Pride ERG
was launched, there was already so much activity in terms of events,
communications and speakers talking to Zoomies about various topics relating to
the LGBTQ+ community and diversity & inclusion.
What really stands out is that we have so
many allies and people are genuinely interested in finding out more or
educating themselves about topics relating to LGBTQ+ community - whether it’s
history, pronouns, DragQueen bingo or general information about the community.
It’s a fun mixture of educational events and social events for Zoomies.
It’s important for us to keep our inclusive
company culture as we scale and as someone in the talent acquisition team we
are the ‘culture ambassadors’ of the company. The ‘Culture of Caring’ is
something that really stands out at Zoom and I can see it on a daily basis when
it comes to how people interact with each other and support each other.
If you want to find out what it’s like to work here let me know. I can even give you some interview tips :)
