French MPs Approve IVF Treatment For Lesbians And Single Women

French MPs have approved a bill to legislate medical assisted pregnancies, such as in vitro fertilization, commonly known as IVF, for lesbians and single women. They also approved to allow two “mothers” to feature in the child’s birth certificate.

The National Assembly passed the draft law by 55 votes to 17. What remains is that it pass through the majority Right-wing Senate, reports The Guardian.

Up until now, lesbians and single women wishing for treatments had to travel over the border to Belgium or Spain to visit fertility clinics.

This bill is Emmanuel Macron’s biggest social reform since he was elected in 2017.
