Gay Athlete Calls Out Homophobic Meme Using His Image

Simon Dunn, the first openly gay bobsledder and former rugby player, has taken to social media to call out a homophobic meme being circulated that has his image.

The meme was created by a gay account no less and features a picture of his face next to the caption “Gay people I respect” and a picture of flamboyant comedian Julian Clary next to the caption “Gay people I do not respect.”

“Don’t use my image for your internalised homophobia, don’t make assumptions on the kind of gay man I am or the kind of gay men I associate myself with,” the Australian athlete wrote in response.

“I’ll always support those who are true to themselves and be who they truly are. I will always be your biggest advocate!”

Dunn also recently sent a defiant image of him kissing his boyfriend after a rugby match last year to homophobic rugby player Israel Folau.
