Gay Couple Arrested in Indonesia for Hosting LGBT+ Facebook Page

A couple in Indonesia have been arrested after authorities discovered a Facebook page they ran that helps initiate gay meet-ups, reports the Straits Times.

The Facebook page was called “Gay Bandung” and had 4,093 active users who ranged from teenagers to adults. Police raided the property of the gay couple, confiscating five mobile phones and 25 condoms.

“They connect and matchmake people who want to make same-sex friendships,”said Adjutant Chief Commander Hari Brata.

“So far, we’re still developing.”

It is reported that the couple were also facilitating the exchange of sex services and have been charged with creating and sharing pornographic content, which breaks Indonesia’s electronic information law.

The couple face a maximum jail sentence of six years and a fine of US$66,000.
