Gay Couple Attacked In France By Gang Of Teens

A gay couple was attacked in the Paris suburb of Pierrefitte by a gang of teenagers who were armed with iron bars. One of the victims has been hospitalised and faces “permanent disfigurement”, according to ‘LGBTQ Nation’.

The attackers, ten young men armed with iron bars, allegedly surrounded one of the victims and started to beat him.

One of the alleged attackers, a 17-year-old boy, has been arrested and is being detained for “aggravated violence that led to a permanent infirmity or mutilation,” the prosecutor’s office in Bobigny announced.

The attack was accompanied by “threats to kill committed because of the victim’s sexual orientation” and that the attack resulted in “missed work that lasted eight days or less,” the prosecutor’s office noted.

Anti-LGBT+ hate crimes have risen in France recently. In 2018, the organisation SOS Homophobie counted 231 anti-LGBT+ physical attacks, which is a 66% increase over 2017.
