Godzilla’s Creators Drop Short Film Confirming The Monster’s Child Is Trans

During Pride month, Toho, the Japanese film production behind Godzilla, which also helps raise the visibility of trans people in Japan, shared an adorable video where the 400-foot tall reptilian has a trans child.

In the two-minute video, Godzilla, who is just starting a battle, notices his child feeling glum. The child is isolating in her room, watching old returns of 'Sailor Moon’ where finally the child opens up to him over a cut of tea.

She explains that she does not identify with being a boy but instead feels much more like a girl. Godzilla, instead of disapproving or trying to convince her otherwise, hugs her. Later in the film, he surprises her by knitting her a blanket in the pattern of the trans flag.

The short film was created by Cressa Maever Beer.

Ass ‘LGBTQ Nation’ reports, Godzilla originally had no set gender and was referred to as “it” in the original 1954 Japanese film, only to be called “he” in its 1956 American release which also gave Godzilla the title “King of the Monsters.” The English dubs of the 30 Japanese-region Godzilla films still refer to Godzilla as a male while the Japanese ones do not state the creature’s gender.
