Hate Crime Investigation Opened After LGBT+ Campaigners Hit with Eggs Outside Birmingham School
Birmingham police have opened a hate crime investigation after LGBT+ campaigners were hit with eggs outside a local primary school, reports the Birmingham Mail.
The campaigners were there in response to weeks of angry protests at LGBT-inclusive education lessons being implemented across the country.
The campaigners had banners showing messages that included: “love is the answer,” “end hate,” and “no to Islamophobia,no to homophobia, no to biphobia, no to transphobia.”
There were then intimidated and attacked with eggs.
“It was awful,” said Tracy from the pro-LGBT+ group SEEDS. “I was shaking. We had no intention of disturbing anyone – we were putting up the banners and messages we had made to show solidarity with staff.
“We wanted them to see something positive when they turned up for work, and to see they had our backing.”
Their banners had been ripped down by Monday.
